Treat yourself and a family member to a dinner at the American Legion Hall in Malverne at 7 pm. on Thursday, March 5, just prior to our meeting which will be held at the usual time. We have ordered the best corned beef in town, cabbage, potatoes, carrots and special desserts. The Legion will supply a bartender so you can choose to purchase beverages at the bar. There will be no additional charge for water, and, of course, we will have coffee and tea when it is time for dessert.
The idea of having a dinner may be new to our club, but the treat of Jim Dulligan’s Irish soda bread is an annual favorite, not to be missed. There will also be rye bread for those who like rye bread with their corned beef. Magnificent desserts and a special treat that is enjoyed every year will be served following the meeting.
In order to complete the food order, call Althea Travis no later than Monday night, March 2. By all means, include a family member, and if you bring a new member who joins the club at the dinner, Althea will treat them to dinner. The donation for the dinner is $5 payable at the door; More will be accepted if you choose to donate more. Remember, this is a great night to bring a prospective member.
Be ready for a festive dinner atmosphere – wear your green or orange, get ready to sing or dance with the music that the McCoys and Cunnanes have put together with the able assistance of Chris Campisi.
As you might expect, other families with Irish family names have been in on the planning for this dinner, namely the Duffy family and the Dulligan family. As you all know, when celebrating Saint Patrick, everyone is Irish for the evening.
We have to give thanks to the many people who have stepped forward to staff our dinner. Almost half of those who have signed up to come are pitching in. That means that all of us working on the preparations on Thursday, April 2, at 7 pm, should have time to relax and enjoy the festivities.
