The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow by Docair Jerry Malkes
After cancelling this car show on September 5th due to precipitation, the festivities on September 7th were just perfect. Various clubs such as the Centurian Cruisers, Long Island Dreamboats, GNYR and especially the Southside Boys of Long Island were present. About 70 cars were counted to honor the Veterans at the St. Alban’s Veteran’s Home. These veteran’s are just marvelous heroes and I enjoyed talking to them. These veteran’s chose the 3 best cars in which GNYR’s Ann Weissert took a second place. Of course all the cars deserve a trophy(they’re all beautiful).
This New York State Veteran’s home is a 250 bed residential health care facility. The home is dedicated to serving U.S. Veterans and their dependents. All the staff was fantastic as was a pleasure meeting them. We all enjoyed a terrific breakfast of coffee, iced tea, lemonade and pasties. On top of that we were all catered to a huge lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs, barbecue chicken,
Jerk chicken, potato salad, fruit salad and all the condiments.
It couldn’t get better when the Home rolled out a birthday cake for Paul Parnes for his great undertakings in bringing such joy to these veterans with these car shows. Paul was worried that this show and all others wouldn’t go smoothly……they all were planned perfect…..
