As we wind down the car season, there are two major events I look forward to. Both concern our veterans and both are in St. Alban’s, Queens. On September 11th, the Patriot’s Day Parade and Car Show was at St. Alban’s Hospital. This is done to “support our veterans and honor all who served, and are serving.” About 15 vehicles showed up on this work- day.

One can never learn too much, and on talking to a veteran, I learned two of the secrets of the U.S.S. Arizona in Pearl Harbor. When this ship went down, there was a casket of a small baby that when down with the ship. The remains of this child were to be buried at sea that morning in December of 1941. This baby
had a twin and years later when asked if the remains should be removed to another location, it’s sibling said, “Why? The baby is being well taken care of by the men who served on the Arizona.” Another secret is that of the men who survived the sinking can be cremated and placed in an urn. That urn is placed in one of the crevices of the Arizona by Navy divers.

September 18th, the car show was at the New York State Veteran’s Home at St. Alban’s. Hosted by the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America-Queens County Region. Paul Parnes and Genie Feminella did a superb job on both of these events.

About 50 assorted vehicles were on the field by 10 A.M. We were treated to a wonderful breakfast and luncheon. We even received dash plaques for this event. My sister, Hazel and I felt this show was so comfortable we didn’t want to leave. First, second and third
