The LI Motor Parkway Plaque The first parkway for the automobile, the Long Island Motor Parkway, was the first concrete limited access highway build by W. K. Vanderbilt, Jr., 1908-1910 (see the picture to the left). Sections of the parkway were used for the Vanderbilt Cup Races, with the first run held in 1904. In 1906 people came from all over country to Long Island to see American, French, German, and Italian racers compete.

The GNYR started holding our Long Island Motor Parkway Memories Antique Car Show – Family Day – Flea Market in 2016, which was held on Sunday, April 24th.

The GNYR's LI Motor Parkway Car Shows The LIMPM Antique Car Show had it’s origins about 2 years previously. The GNYR lost it’s car show venue at the Queens County Farm Museum, that it had held for about 34 years. In the meantime, the club had changed it’s meeting place from the VFW in Malverne to it’s present location at the American Legion Hall in Williston Park. It was noted that a section of the Motor Parkway was right next to the Hall. Discussions were held and all parties were in agreement to hold our event at the American Legion Hall.

Seeing how this event was gaining in popularity, the clubs members agreed to add the Greater New York Region Annual Fall Car Show and Swap Meet in the month of October.
